Use Fenn with other AI apps
If you already use another AI app, you can let it search the files Fenn has indexed on your Mac.
Connect an app
Section titled “Connect an app”- Open Settings → Search & AI.
- Scroll to Use Fenn with other AI apps.
- Find your app and click Install.
- Follow the notice and restart the receiving app if requested.
- In that app, check that the Fenn connection is available.
If a row says Not installed, install or open the receiving app first, then refresh the integration status in Fenn.
These connections use MCP, a standard for connecting AI apps to tools. You do not need to learn the technical details for the built-in setup.
Ask it to search
Section titled “Ask it to search”Try a focused request such as “Use Fenn to find the documents about the website launch.”
Keep Fenn running and make sure the needed files are indexed. The receiving app may ask you to approve its use of Fenn’s tools.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”The connection gives the other app access to search results and the content its tools retrieve. That app’s model and data handling apply. Do not assume Fenn’s local processing or Privacy Filter automatically protects a different app’s requests.
Remove the connection
Section titled “Remove the connection”Return to Use Fenn with other AI apps and click Remove beside the installed connection.
For an unlisted compatible app, Other MCP app → Copy configuration provides manual setup information. This is optional advanced setup; contact support if you need help.
